The Clyde River (Dhurga: Bhundoo) is an open intermediate tide-dominated drowned valley estuary or perennial river that flows into the Tasman Sea at Batemans Bay, located in the South Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. The region was first occupied by the Walbunja people from the Yuin nation. Their name for the river, Bhundoo, means “Deep Water”.
The Batemans Bay Sailing Club (BBSC) is pleased to announce this year’s BBSC Bhundoo Cup – the Bridge to Bridge Challenge, to be held on Saturday 7th December 2024

- 0830 Pre-race information session & race registration (at the BBSC club house)

Bhundoo Cup Bridge to Bridge Challenge Notice of Race (NOR) & Sailing Instructions
A pre-race information session & race registration will be held from 8.30-9.30 AM at the BBSC club house (on the right as you approach Hanging Rock launching ramp)

The Race is open to all trailer sailors & smaller keel boats whose mast will allow passage under the Batemans Bay bridge at all tides. (12m clearance HAT)
All competing (intending to race) boats will need to comply with Yachting Australia (YA) category 7 safety requirements (i.e. NSW maritime requirements with a couple of practical additional requirements). Please ensure that your boat is equipped with a mobile phone & or a VHF radio to ask for assistance & communicate with race management if required.
Competing boats should have a working motor, capable of getting the boat from Batemans Bay to Nelligen & return.
Entry fee is by gold coin donation – we just want to get you out there!
Any boat racing with non BBSC members – those members will be required to register for a YA sail pass on the day. This is required for each crew member https://www.revolutionise.com.au/batemansbaysc/temporary-member/ This event is all about getting out on the water and having a fun family day.
The Race – All Divisions
The start line will be between the most western edge of the Murra Mia Jetty (long jetty) & the red public mooring to its north.
The course: From the start, sail west, then south upstream (obeying the channel markers) for 90 minutes. After 90 minutes you will motor to Nelligen. The winner of the day will be the boat that gets closest to Nelligen under sail in the allotted time. Tides are perfect for getting to Nelligen and back that day.
Boats shall not sail between moored boats & the shore.
Or… …simply get to the picnic by any means available
Simply motor all the way to Nelligen. You may not win a race, but you get to join in the fun at BBSC picnic at Nelligen. The picnic at Nelligen is a real feature of the day and allows friends and family to join in.
Or, if you can’t make it to Nelligen by sailing boat, you could loan your next door neighbour’s power boat or drive your car.
Any way you get there you will be rewarded with a fun day out. Again – it’s all about getting out on the water and having a fun family day.
If you are not racing there is no requirement to register at the BBSC club house in the morning, just make your own way to Nelligen.
